Freeport Housing Authority
New Administration Building
at 100 North Main Street
Project Location: Freeport, NY
Client: Village of Freeport Housing Authority
Nelson + Pope was retained to prepare plans for building mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems, as well as for site construction and landscaping for the new 3,900 SF Freeport Housing Authority’s Administration Building. The two-story building was constructed on the property in the shadow of the Authority’s five-story 100 North Main Street apartment building. The building was sited to provide the most possible offset to the adjacent apartment building, and to minimize impacts to the residents. To offset vacant space on the property now occupied by the administration building, a new plaza was designed with hardscape seating areas and landscaped with a palette of native plants and rain gardens.
The high efficiency building features an air-source heat pump for heating and cooling, and energy recovery ventilators to maintain high indoor air quality. A lighting control system provides automated control of light fixtures to reduce operating costs. The design also includes standard plumbing and a fire alarm system.
