Department of Public Works
Project Location: North Hempstead DPW, New Hyde Park
Client: Town of North Hempstead
Nelson + Pope was retained by the Town of North Hempstead to replace the existing HVAC systems including air handlers, VAV boxes, air-cooled condensers, ventilation fans, boilers, pumps and piping, and water heating equipment. The existing equipment was original to the building that was constructed in the early 1980’s and exceeded its service life. N+P’s design included replacement of oil-fired boilers with new high efficiency natural gas fired condensing boilers. All existing hydronic equipment was replaced with new equipment to match the heat output of the existing equipment, but at lower water temperatures to achieve high boiler combustion efficiencies. All new fans and pumps are designed as variable speed, and the design includes a control system to ensure that the lowest operating costs are achieved through minimizing fan and pump operation where possible. N+P is also provided bid and construction administration services for this project.
