Brookhaven Public Library
Roadway & Site Improvements

Project Location: Brookhaven, NY
Client: Brookhaven Free Library

In 1912 the Fireplace Literary Club was founded for the purpose of establishing a library for the residents of the hamlet of Brookhaven. With some improvements over the years, the building as it stands today on Beaver Dam Road retains very much the original look and feel of the 1926 construction while accommodating the needs of the modern library user. The Brookhaven Public Library provides quality materials and services that serve the educational, informational, cultural, and recreational needs of the community it serves, South Country Central School District, and with their mission of prioritizing children’s services.

Nelson + Pope was retained by the Library that to provide parking, pedestrian, stormwater, and beautification improvements. Services included securing necessary permits from the Town, preparation of bid documents and construction services for the installation of new formal parking, walkways, storm drainage and lighting on Beaver Dam Road and Library Lane. ADA accessibility was incorporated for the new parking and pedestrian paths. Other site improvements included new fencing, landscaping and site grading.
