Street Improvements

Project Location: Broadway between NYS 25 and King Road
Client: Town of Brookhaven

The Town of Brookhaven hired N+P to design traffic calming improvements to Broadway in the downtown area of Rocky Point to improve safety and accommodate for the needs of all users of the roadway.  This project entailed the re-design of the outdated traffic signal at Broadway and King Road, provided curb bulb outs and colored crosswalks at Broadway and Prince Road to reduce crashes at this intersection, and provided colored sidewalks and high visibility crosswalks.

The construction documents also included the design of LED decorative street lighting, street trees and other landscaping improvements, drainage improvements through the installation of additional leaching structures, and the milling and paving of the roadway within the project limits.

The redesigned traffic signal at Broadway and King Road included pedestrian enhancements comprised of pedestrian countdown timers, LED signal heads, video detection, ADA compliant sidewalk ramps, colored crosswalks, curb extensions, emergency vehicle pre-emption.

N+P assisted the Town during construction by providing daily construction inspection and coordination of the various contractors due to the project being constructed by means of the Town’s various requirements contracts.
