Gurwin Jewish Fay J. Lindner Senior Residences Sewage Treatment Plant Upgrades
Project Location: Commack, NY
Client: Gurwin Jewish Fay J. Lindner Senior Residences
Nelson + Pope was retained by Gurwin Jewish Fay J. Lindner Senior Residences to provide engineering and construction administration services for the expansion of the existing Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) located in Commack, NY. The STP upgrades were implemented to accommodate increased flow from the neighboring Gurwin Jewish Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the Fountaingate Gardens properties, a new Independent Living Unit development sponsored by Gurwin. The Fountaingate Gardens property, also located in Commack, consists of approximately 10.4 acres of land, and includes 160 units of age restricted independent living to complete the continuum of care model for Gurwin Communities.
The modifications to the STP included work to convert the treatment technology from Sequencing Batch Reactors to Membrane Bioreactors, improve in the influent Pump Station (PS) and the Sludge Holding Tanks (SHT). Several other modifications were also implemented to help alleviate the existing operational issues experienced at the facility, including replacing the existing Static Screen and assessing the functionality of various equipment throughout the plant. The sanitary collection system design for the connection of the nursing home and the abandonment of the existing nursing home STP were also designed.
N+P provided additional services during construction, including inspection and facility start-up services and the development of an operations and maintenance manual. Nelson Pope Voorhis, N+P’s environmental affiliate, conducted a Phase I ESA and additional services to support the development of an updated Environmental Assessment Form and an Expanded Environmental Assessment Form for the Fountaingate development.
